If you subscribed through an app store: If you bought Microsoft 365 through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you CANNOT cancel it on Microsoft's site; Microsoft's official cancel page directs you to contact Apple or Google to cancel and request any refund. Apple: cancel via Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on iPhone/iPad, or via the App Store on Mac; refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play: cancel under Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions, or at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Third-party retailers (Amazon, Harvey Norman, etc.): manage and cancel directly with the retailer.

Steps to cancel Microsoft 365

  1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services (or directly to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365).
  2. Sign in with the SAME Microsoft personal account you used to buy Microsoft 365. If you bought it through a work or school account, you cannot self-cancel; contact your organization's IT admin instead.
  3. Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and select 'Manage'.
  4. On the subscription page select 'Cancel subscription' (on some plans this appears as 'Upgrade or Cancel').
  5. If you instead see a link that says 'Turn on recurring billing', STOP: your subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and you will NOT be charged again. No further action is needed.
  6. Review the information on the page, then at the bottom select 'I don't want my subscription' (the keep option is 'I want to keep my benefits').
  7. Follow the remaining prompts and confirm to finalize. The flow will indicate any refund eligibility automatically.
  8. If you signed up for a free trial, cancel within 30 days of signing up to avoid being charged; you keep trial features until it ends, after which Office eventually drops to View Only mode (you can open and print but not edit or create).
Watch for the save offer. During cancellation Microsoft shows a screen where the keep button reads 'I want to keep my benefits'. To actually cancel, select 'I don't want my subscription' and complete the prompts. Do not stop at the benefits screen assuming you are finished.

Things to watch out for

Refunds

Bought directly from Microsoft: refund eligible within 30 days of initial purchase OR before your first recurring billing date, whichever is sooner. You can also refund your most recent recurring charge if you cancel within 30 days after that payment, limited to one time per Microsoft account per subscription product. The cancel flow shows refund eligibility automatically (cancel first to request it). Prorated refunds for any subscription length apply only in certain countries (Canada, Denmark, France, Israel, Korea, Turkiye, plus French territories, Faroe Islands, Greenland); some others (Finland, Germany after Mar 1 2022, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal) get prorated refunds only on renewals of subscriptions longer than one month. For Copilot Pro / Microsoft 365 Premium, all other countries get a prorated refund only if cancelled within 14 days of purchase. App Store / Google Play purchases follow Apple's or Google's refund rules, not Microsoft's.

Cancellation is fully self-service online via your Microsoft account; no phone call or store visit is required. There is no separate Microsoft 365 mobile-app cancel flow for purchases made directly from Microsoft (use the website). If blocked from cancelling online, Microsoft directs you to its guided support tool / Contact Microsoft Support; it does not publish a dedicated cancellation phone number on these pages, so the phone fields are intentionally left empty. If you bought your subscription in Germany, Microsoft offers a special flow to cancel without signing into your account.
