How to cancel iCloud+

Steps to cancel iCloud+
- ON iPHONE (iOS 18.4 or later): Open the Settings app and tap your name at the top. Tap Subscriptions. Under Active, tap iCloud+. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
- ON iPHONE (iOS 18 to 18.3): Open Settings, tap your name, tap iCloud. Tap Manage Plan under iCloud+ Features. Tap Downgrade Options, select the free 5GB plan, then tap Done. (On these versions Apple frames cancelling as downgrading to the free 5GB tier.)
- ON iPHONE (iOS 17 or earlier): Open Settings, tap your name, tap iCloud, then Manage Account Storage. Tap Downgrade Options, select the free 5GB plan, then tap Done.
- ON iPAD: Same as iPhone for your iPadOS version. iPadOS 18.4+: Settings > your name > Subscriptions > iCloud+ > Cancel Subscription. iPadOS 18 to 18.3 / 17 and earlier: Settings > your name > iCloud > Manage Plan (or Manage Account Storage) > Downgrade Options > free plan > Done.
- ON MAC (macOS Tahoe 26): Apple menu > System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Plan > Cancel Subscription, then confirm.
- ON MAC (macOS Sonoma or Sequoia): Apple menu > System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Plan > Downgrade Options > enter your password > select the free 5GB plan > Done.
- ON WINDOWS PC: Open iCloud for Windows and click Manage. Click Change Storage Plan, then Downgrade Options. Enter your Apple Account password and click Manage. Select the free 5GB plan and click Done.
- WITHOUT ANY APPLE DEVICE (web): Go to https://reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account email/phone and password used for the subscription. Click 'I'd like to,' then choose 'Request a refund.' Choose a reason and select Next, then pick the most recent iCloud+ charge and choose Submit. (Apple routes device-free cancellation through this report/refund flow.)
- VERIFY: After cancelling, the change takes effect at the END of your current billing period, so you keep iCloud+ until then. To confirm, recheck Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions (or System Settings > Apple Account > iCloud) and ensure iCloud+ no longer shows as Active or shows an expiration date.
Things to watch out for
- Cancellation is not immediate. The downgrade or cancellation only takes effect after your current billing period ends, so you are not refunded the remainder of the period automatically.
- BACK UP FIRST. Before cancelling, move or remove any content that exceeds the free 5GB limit. After cancellation, if your iCloud storage is over the limit, iCloud will not sync or update your information and iCloud backups will not complete until you free up space or add storage again. (Apple says this pauses syncing and backups rather than deleting data.)
- You also lose iCloud+ features beyond storage. Apple lists Hide My Email, Private Relay, Apple Invites, and HomeKit Secure Video support as features that stop working when you go back to the free plan.
- Free trial: cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged for the first paid period.
- On older OS versions (iOS/iPadOS 18.3 and earlier, macOS Sonoma/Sequoia, Windows), there is no button literally labeled 'Cancel Subscription' for iCloud+. You cancel by choosing 'Downgrade Options' and selecting the free 5GB plan. That IS the cancellation.
- Apple One: if you pay for both Apple One and a separate iCloud+ plan, you can cancel or downgrade the standalone iCloud+ plan and keep using the iCloud+ storage that is included in Apple One.
- Make sure you are signed in to the SAME Apple Account that is being billed. Check an email receipt to confirm which account was charged if you cannot find the subscription.
Refunds
Apple's iCloud+ page states that if you recently changed your iCloud+ plan, you can contact Apple within 14 days for a refund, and that partial refunds are available where required by law. Refunds are requested at https://reportaproblem.apple.com (sign in, choose 'Request a refund,' pick the iCloud charge, Submit). Apple says a refund decision can take 24 to 48 hours; if approved, it may take additional time for funds to return to your payment method. Outside the 14-day window or where law does not require it, refunds are not guaranteed and cancellation simply stops the next renewal.
Most direct path depends on the device: on a current iPhone/iPad use Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > iCloud+ > Cancel Subscription; with no Apple device use reportaproblem.apple.com. iCloud+ cannot be cancelled by phone or in person, and Apple does not publish a dedicated phone line for self-service subscription cancellation. Verified against Apple's official support.apple.com pages on 2026-06-15. Steps reflect OS naming as documented by Apple (iOS/iPadOS 18.4+, macOS Tahoe 26, plus older 'Downgrade Options' fallbacks).
