If you subscribed through an app store: This matters a lot for VPNs. If you originally subscribed to ExpressVPN through the Apple App Store (iOS in-app purchase) or Google Play (Android in-app purchase), ExpressVPN CANNOT cancel it for you and the ExpressVPN website portal will not show a cancel option. You must cancel where you pay: Apple (App Store app > profile icon > Subscriptions > ExpressVPN > Cancel Subscription, or Settings > your name > Subscriptions > ExpressVPN > Cancel Subscription) or Google Play (Play Store > profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > ExpressVPN > Cancel subscription). ExpressVPN's official rule is that you can only cancel on the ExpressVPN website if you bought on the website, and only through the app store if you bought through that app store. Critically, app-store purchases are NOT covered by ExpressVPN's 30-day money-back guarantee. Any refund for an App Store or Google Play purchase must be requested from Apple or Google and is granted solely at their discretion.

Steps to cancel ExpressVPN

  1. FIRST, figure out HOW you paid. If you bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you MUST cancel there (jump to those steps below). ExpressVPN itself cannot cancel app-store subscriptions. If you paid by card, PayPal, Apple Pay, or Google Pay directly on the ExpressVPN site, use the website steps next.
  2. WEBSITE (card/PayPal/Apple Pay/Google Pay): Open any web browser and go to the My Subscription portal at https://portal.expressvpn.com/my-subscription . Note: you cannot cancel from inside the ExpressVPN app itself.
  3. WEBSITE: If prompted, enter your account email address and select 'Send Code'. Check your email for the verification code.
  4. WEBSITE: Enter the verification code, then select 'Continue' to sign in.
  5. WEBSITE: Under the 'Automatic renewal' section, click 'Cancel subscription' and follow the prompts to confirm. You will then no longer be auto-billed for the next cycle, but you keep access until the last day of your current paid cycle.
  6. APPLE APP STORE (if you subscribed via iPhone/iPad): Open the App Store app, tap your profile icon (top right), tap 'Subscriptions', find and tap 'ExpressVPN', then tap 'Cancel Subscription' and follow the prompts. (You can also do this from Settings: tap your name at the top, tap 'Subscriptions', tap 'ExpressVPN', then 'Cancel Subscription'.)
  7. GOOGLE PLAY (if you subscribed via Android): Open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile icon (top right), tap 'Payments & subscriptions', tap 'Subscriptions', find and tap 'ExpressVPN', then tap 'Cancel subscription' and follow the prompts.
  8. TIMING: Cancel at least 24 hours BEFORE your free trial ends or before your next billing date, or you will be charged for the next period.
  9. OPTIONAL REFUND (direct/website purchases only): If you are a first-time user within 30 days of purchase, sign in at portal.expressvpn.com, go to Account & Billing / Payment History, select the invoice, and choose 'Contact Support', or start the 24/7 live chat at https://www.expressvpn.com/support/ to request a full refund under the 30-day money-back guarantee.
Watch for the save offer. ExpressVPN's documented cancellation flow is a self-service web/app-store process with no mandatory phone call or live-agent retention gate, so there is no formal save-offer script you must talk past. If you choose to use live chat to request a refund, the agent may offer a discount or extension to keep you; you can simply decline and restate that you want to cancel and (if eligible) be refunded. The 'follow the prompts' step on the website may show retention messaging, but you can proceed straight through to confirm cancellation.

Things to watch out for

Refunds

Direct/website purchases: a 30-day money-back guarantee gives a full refund for FIRST-TIME users only; anyone (or any payment account) previously refunded is ineligible. The window is exactly 30 days from the purchase moment (ExpressVPN's example: order at 8am July 1, window closes 8am July 31). Request via the account portal (Account & Billing > Payment History > select invoice > Contact Support) or via 24/7 live chat or email at expressvpn.com/support. ExpressVPN states your original payment method will be credited 'as soon as possible'; it does not publish a firm processing time per payment method, so treat timing as unspecified. Exclusions: App Store / Google Play in-app purchases are NOT covered (request through Apple/Google instead), and subscriptions purchased during the FIFA World Cup 26 promo (June 10 to July 11, 2026) are excluded.

You cannot cancel from inside the ExpressVPN app; use the website portal (for website purchases) or the app store where you paid. Verified against ExpressVPN's own support domain (expressvpn.com). The cancel URL is the My Subscription portal at portal.expressvpn.com/my-subscription, which the official cancellation support page links to directly; you sign in via an emailed code. ExpressVPN does NOT publish a customer-support phone number; support is 24/7 live chat plus email (support@expressvpn.com) plus Contact Support via the account portal, so phone and phone_hours are intentionally left empty. Account deletion is a separate action from cancellation.
