How to cancel Nintendo Switch Online

Steps to cancel Nintendo Switch Online
- Go to accounts.nintendo.com/portal and sign in to the Nintendo Account that PURCHASED the Nintendo Switch Online membership (only the purchasing account can cancel).
- Select "Nintendo Switch Online" in your account menu.
- In the "Active Plan" section, select "Cancel Your Pass by Turning Off Auto-Renewal."
- Select "Confirm" to finish turning off automatic renewal.
- Alternative on the console (original Nintendo Switch): open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu, choose the purchasing account, select your icon in the upper-right corner to open Account Information, highlight "Nintendo Switch Online" on the left, then select "Cancel Your Subscription by Turning Off Automatic Renewal."
- Alternative on the console (Nintendo Switch 2): open Nintendo eShop, choose the purchasing account, select your icon in the upper-right corner for Account Information, scroll down, then select "Cancel Your Subscription by Turning Off Automatic Renewal."
- Do this at least 48 hours before the membership expiration date so the renewal charge is not processed; the membership stays active until the end of the paid term.
Things to watch out for
- This cancels auto-renewal only. The membership stays active until the end of the current paid term, and Nintendo gives NO refunds or credits for the remaining time on your subscription.
- Turn off auto-renewal at least 48 hours before the expiration date. Nintendo deducts the renewal amount from your Nintendo Account no sooner than 48 hours before expiry, so cutting it closer can still result in a charge.
- Once auto-renewal is turned off it CANNOT be turned back on. You would have to purchase a new membership later.
- Free 7-day trial: starting it automatically activates auto-renewal for a paid 30-day individual membership that begins when the trial ends. Cancel auto-renewal before the 7-day trial ends and you will not be charged.
- You must be signed in to the exact Nintendo Account that PURCHASED the membership; other members of a family group cannot adjust or cancel it.
- Family Membership note: only the Nintendo Account holder who bought the membership can manage or cancel auto-renewal.
- Separate product warning: some games sell their own "in-game subscriptions" through Nintendo. Those are canceled via a different flow (Account Information > Passes on Switch 2 / Your Subscriptions on the original Switch, per Nintendo support article a_id 54285), not the NSO membership screen.
Refunds
No refunds or credits. Per Nintendo: when you turn off auto-renewal, the membership remains active until the end of its term and you will not receive any refunds or credits for the remaining time left on your subscription. This is auto-renewal cancellation only, not a mid-term refund.
Cancellation means turning off automatic renewal. Works fully online (accounts.nintendo.com/portal) or in-app on the console via Nintendo eShop > Account Information; no phone call or store visit needed. Web button label is "Cancel Your Pass by Turning Off Auto-Renewal"; the console button label is "Cancel Your Subscription by Turning Off Automatic Renewal." Console steps differ slightly between the original Switch (highlight "Nintendo Switch Online" first) and Switch 2 (scroll down in Account Information). Key irreversibility: once auto-renew is off it cannot be re-enabled. The free trial converts to a paid 30-day individual membership when it ends, so cancel before the 7-day trial expires to avoid a charge. Phone left empty because no dedicated NSO cancellation phone line is published on Nintendo's official cancel pages.
