How to cancel Nintendo Switch Online

If you subscribed through an app store: Nintendo Switch Online is billed directly by Nintendo through your Nintendo Account (Nintendo Account funds, saved card, or PayPal), NOT through the Apple App Store or Google Play, so there is no app-store redirect to cancel it. You cancel it in your Nintendo Account at accounts.nintendo.com/portal or on the console via Nintendo eShop > Account Information. The only app-store-adjacent exception is a separate product called an "in-game subscription" (a subscription a specific game sells); those are still managed through Nintendo (Account Information > Passes or Your Subscriptions), not Apple or Google. The Nintendo mobile apps do not provide an NSO cancel button.

Steps to cancel Nintendo Switch Online

  1. Go to accounts.nintendo.com/portal and sign in to the Nintendo Account that PURCHASED the Nintendo Switch Online membership (only the purchasing account can cancel).
  2. Select "Nintendo Switch Online" in your account menu.
  3. In the "Active Plan" section, select "Cancel Your Pass by Turning Off Auto-Renewal."
  4. Select "Confirm" to finish turning off automatic renewal.
  5. Alternative on the console (original Nintendo Switch): open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu, choose the purchasing account, select your icon in the upper-right corner to open Account Information, highlight "Nintendo Switch Online" on the left, then select "Cancel Your Subscription by Turning Off Automatic Renewal."
  6. Alternative on the console (Nintendo Switch 2): open Nintendo eShop, choose the purchasing account, select your icon in the upper-right corner for Account Information, scroll down, then select "Cancel Your Subscription by Turning Off Automatic Renewal."
  7. Do this at least 48 hours before the membership expiration date so the renewal charge is not processed; the membership stays active until the end of the paid term.
Watch for the save offer. Nintendo's official cancel flow does not document a retention or discount save-offer pop-up; turning off auto-renewal is a direct Confirm step. None verified.

Things to watch out for

Refunds

No refunds or credits. Per Nintendo: when you turn off auto-renewal, the membership remains active until the end of its term and you will not receive any refunds or credits for the remaining time left on your subscription. This is auto-renewal cancellation only, not a mid-term refund.

Cancellation means turning off automatic renewal. Works fully online (accounts.nintendo.com/portal) or in-app on the console via Nintendo eShop > Account Information; no phone call or store visit needed. Web button label is "Cancel Your Pass by Turning Off Auto-Renewal"; the console button label is "Cancel Your Subscription by Turning Off Automatic Renewal." Console steps differ slightly between the original Switch (highlight "Nintendo Switch Online" first) and Switch 2 (scroll down in Account Information). Key irreversibility: once auto-renew is off it cannot be re-enabled. The free trial converts to a paid 30-day individual membership when it ends, so cancel before the 7-day trial expires to avoid a charge. Phone left empty because no dedicated NSO cancellation phone line is published on Nintendo's official cancel pages.
