How to cancel Chegg

Steps to cancel Chegg
- Figure out which billing path you used, because it determines where you cancel. If you signed up directly on chegg.com (paid with a card or PayPal), cancel on Chegg's website (steps below). If you subscribed inside the Chegg iPhone or iPad app via the Apple App Store, you must cancel through Apple instead (see the app-store note). If you subscribed via Google Play on Android, cancel through Google Play.
- Web (direct Chegg billing): Use a desktop or laptop browser, since the mobile browser flow can be glitchy, and sign in to your account at chegg.com.
- Go to My Account, then click Orders. Chegg's official help text reads: 'Go to My Account, then click on Orders.'
- In the Subscriptions section, find the subscription you want to end and click Cancel subscription on that line.
- You will be offered a Pause option (up to six months) instead of cancelling. To fully cancel, decline the pause and continue.
- Under the 'Tell us why you're canceling' prompt, choose a reason and continue.
- On the final page, click the orange Cancel Subscription button at the bottom to confirm.
- Confirm you see a cancellation confirmation. After confirming you will not be charged again, and you keep access for the remainder of the current billing period.
Things to watch out for
- Cancel before your renewal date. Cancelling stops the next charge but does not refund the current period; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Deleting the Chegg app does NOT cancel the subscription. You must cancel through the billing channel (Chegg web, Apple, or Google Play).
- If you subscribed through the Apple App Store, cancelling on chegg.com will not stop the charge. You must cancel in iPhone or iPad Settings. If you subscribed through Google Play, you must cancel in the Play Store.
- Chegg pushes a Pause option (up to six months) instead of cancelling. Pausing does NOT cancel. Decline it and click the final orange Cancel Subscription button.
- Chegg has separate products (Chegg Study, the Chegg Study Pack bundle, Chegg Writing, and others). Cancelling one does not cancel the others, so check each line in your Orders or Subscriptions list. Note the Study Pack is a bundle, so cancelling it removes all of its included features at once.
- Free trials auto-convert to paid if not cancelled before the trial ends. Cancel during the trial window to avoid the first charge; cancelling does not refund a charge that has already posted.
- Refunds for subscription fees are not automatic. Chegg's standard model gives you access through the end of the paid period rather than a prorated refund, so cancel early but expect to keep access, not get money back, for the current period.
Refunds
Cancelling does not trigger an automatic refund of the current billing period. Chegg's standard model gives you access through the end of the period you already paid for rather than a prorated refund. For an annual Chegg Study membership, Chegg's policy allows a swap within the first 30 days of being billed, with an automatic refund of the amount charged back to your original payment method within about five business days. Textbook orders have a separate policy: physical books can be returned within 21 days for a refund of the book price minus the original shipping cost (prepaid return label provided), and digital or eTextbook purchases can be returned for a full refund within the first 10 days. For subscriptions billed via Apple or Google, request any refund through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com) or Google, not Chegg.
Phone is NOT required to cancel; cancellation is fully self-service online (or via Apple or Google for app-store subscriptions). Phone number and phone_hours left empty per the no-fabrication rule: chegg.com blocks automated fetching (HTTP 403), and the customer-service numbers seen in third-party search context conflicted with one another (855-477-0177, 1-855-868-1054, 1-855-581-9873) with none confirmable against an authoritative Chegg page, so they are omitted. The cancel_url was changed from the unverified direct path https://www.chegg.com/my/orders (which no authoritative source confirms resolves) to Chegg's own official 'How do I cancel my Chegg Study subscription?' help page; the in-account location is My Account, then Orders. The core web steps, the Pause-up-to-6-months offer, access continuing through the billing period, the Apple App Store steps (verified against Apple support 118428), and the Google Play steps (verified against Google Play Help) are all corroborated by official sources.
