How to cancel Evernote

Steps to cancel Evernote
- FIRST check how you pay: if you subscribed via the iPhone/iPad app (Apple), Google Play, or PayPal, you must cancel on that platform, NOT on Evernote's site (see gotchas). The steps below are for subscriptions billed directly by Evernote (credit card via the web).
- Go to Evernote Web and log in, then open Account Settings.
- In the left-hand menu, select 'Billing'.
- Next to 'Your plan', select 'Manage'.
- At the bottom of the page, select 'Cancel plan'.
- Continue through the confirmation prompts: you will be asked to provide a reason for canceling, then click 'Continue to cancel' to finish. (The reason prompt is where any retention messaging appears.)
- Confirm it worked: you will get an email confirmation, and your plan stays active until the end of the current billing cycle, then reverts to Evernote Free. In Billing History, a 'Restore' button next to your plan confirms the cancellation took and it will not renew.
- If billed through Apple: on iPhone/iPad open Settings, tap your name, tap 'Subscriptions', tap Evernote, then 'Cancel Subscription'; or on the web go to account.apple.com/account/manage/section/subscriptions.
- If billed through Google Play: go to play.google.com (or the Play Store app), open Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions, select Evernote, then 'Cancel subscription'.
- If billed through PayPal: in your PayPal account go to Settings > Payments, find the Evernote automatic payment under Subscriptions / Automatic Payments, and cancel it.
Things to watch out for
- Evernote has NO customer support phone number. Support is web/email/chat only; no call or in-person visit is ever required (or possible) to cancel.
- APP-STORE / THIRD-PARTY BILLING REDIRECT: If you originally subscribed inside the iPhone/iPad app, you are billed by Apple and CANNOT cancel from Evernote's website. Cancel via iPhone Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Evernote > Cancel Subscription (or account.apple.com). Same for Google Play (cancel in the Play Store) and PayPal (cancel the recurring payment in PayPal). If you do not see an option to switch to 'Evernote Free' on Evernote's Billing page, that is the sign your subscription is billed by one of these third parties.
- Cancelling stops auto-renewal but is NOT an instant refund. Your paid plan stays active until the end of the current billing cycle, then downgrades to Evernote Free.
- Free plan limit after downgrade: if you have more than 50 notes you can no longer CREATE new notes, but you keep view/edit/export/delete access to existing notes and notebooks. No data is deleted.
- REFUNDS are separate from cancellation. Refund windows: monthly plans within 20 days of the payment date; annual plans within 60 days of the payment date. Outside those windows, no prorated refunds for partially used time.
- To request a refund, Evernote offers self-serve: Account Settings > Billing > click 'Need help?' next to Billing history and follow the modal. If you do not see 'Need help?', use the Evernote Web contact/support form to submit a refund request (you will verify account details).
- Refunds for App Store / Google Play / PayPal purchases must be requested from Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com), Google, or PayPal respectively, NOT from Evernote.
- Free-trial note: cancel before the trial end date or you will be auto-charged for the first paid period; the same third-party billing rule applies (cancel a trial started in-app via Apple/Google).
- Teams/Enterprise plans use a different process (admin console Billing Information, or contact Evernote Support to end before the billing period) and a separate help article.
Refunds
Cancellation does not auto-refund. Direct (web/credit-card) refund windows: monthly within 20 days of the payment date, annual within 60 days of the payment date; no prorated refunds for partial use after those windows. Request via Account Settings > Billing > 'Need help?' next to Billing history (self-serve), or the Evernote Web contact form. App Store / Google Play / PayPal purchases must be refunded by those platforms (e.g. reportaproblem.apple.com).
Verify success via the email confirmation plus a 'Restore' button in Billing History (its presence means the subscription is canceled and will not renew). If the web 'Cancel plan' option is missing, you are billed by Apple, Google Play, or PayPal and must cancel there. Enterprise/Teams plans use a different process (separate Evernote help article). Evernote support is web-based only (help center contact form / chat / email); there is no phone line.
